Begin with an easier Gubeikou walk, then spend the next day hiking from Jinshanling toward West Simatai.

Day 1 follows a gentler Gubeikou route. After the watchtower overnight, Day 2 includes a 2.5–3-hour Jinshanling to West Simatai hike, lunch and an afternoon return to Beijing.
The trail is still uneven and the overnight is outdoors. Pack warm layers for everyone, personal necessities and suitable shoes for children.

The original beginner-oriented program explores Gubeikou’s less steep approaches and its General Tower area, allowing more time to appreciate the unrestored Wall and the story of the 1933 battle.
After sunrise at Gubeikou, the route continues by vehicle to Jinshanling. The walk toward West Simatai shows the contrast between preserved Wall and more original sections before lunch and the return drive.
